JACKSON, MS – Peavey Electronics Corporation president Mary Peavey, a longtime arts and education advocate, was appointed to the Mississippi Arts Commission's Board of Commissioners. Along with her role as president of Meridian, MS-based Peavey Electronics Corporation, Peavey has long pursued the goal of bridging creativity and commerce through arts and education.
"I am eager to serve my state and help make the arts a bigger part of our lives and our children's lives," said Peavey, a Mississippi native who has served as an active and dedicated supporter of after-school programs.

Among other accomplishments, Peavey is credited for helping to make Mississippi the first state to offer the "Afterschool is Key" car tag. She is a board member of the national Afterschool Alliance, has served as an advocate for the National Arts Council, and continues to bring the arts to children through strategic partnerships, events and music education programs.

Peavey also plays an essential role in producing the annual "Mississippi Grammy Legacy Celebration," which celebrates the fact that Mississippi has produced more Grammy Award winners and nominees per capita than any other state. The event features the Peavey Awards and was named "One of the Coolest Events on the Planet" by Vanity Fair in 2008.

"Mary Peavey truly loves Mississippi's unique arts and culture," said Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, who appointed Peavey. "Her family has contributed so much to our state's musical heritage, making her a perfect fit for the Arts Commission."

The Mississippi Arts Commission is the official grants-making and service agency for the arts in Mississippi. The agency serves as an active supporter and promoter of arts in community life and in arts education. Governed by a 15-member volunteer Board of Commissioners, the Mississippi Arts Commission is designed to stimulate and encourage the study and presentation of Mississippi performing, visual, and literary arts and public interest and participation.

Founded in 1965, Peavey is one of the world's largest manufacturers of musical instruments and professional sound equipment. Peavey has earned more than 180 patents and produces more than 2,000 products, which are distributed throughout the United States and to 136 other countries.
