NEW YORK CITY — Studer has joined the touring sound sector with the Vista 5 SR desk, a road-ready version of the established Vista 5 console already in use in theatres, studios and performing arts centers around the world. The Vista 5 SR is a direct response from Studer to suggestions from leading tour sound companies and engineers who saw the Vista 5 and realized its potential as a true live sound desk.
The Vistonics user interface uses encoders mounted directly into TFT screens designed to give immediate viewing and access of channel and output parameters. The Vista 5 platform is already proven in many installations worldwide, not only in broadcast OB trucks and TV studios, but also in theatres and opera houses.
The Vista 5 SR comes with preset configurations for front-of-house and monitor use. A standalone Config Editor tool allows the channel/bus structure to be customized, all of which can be saved for each particular show setup and instantly recalled from memory or a USB stick at a later date.
The Vista 5 SR has an expandable I/O system, where the whole range of available Studer D21m series I/O cards (including CobraNet and Aviom A-Net) can be added to the system. The MADI standard is used as optical snake link from stagebox to FOH rack, with the possibility to add a redundant snake for increased security.
According to the company, the Studer sound comes from the design of quality mic preamps, precise AD/DA converters and 40-bit floating-point summing busses. FIR type EQs also contribute to the performance of the Vista 5 SR. The Vista 5 SR comes with facilities to aid production, including Studer's proprietary VSP panning system, which can be used to control panning without level shifts.
