NORTHFIELD, OH – Stage Research Inc., developer of innovative audio, sound design and lighting software, has introduced a new three-scale Sound Template drafting aid. The new template supplements the company’s original Sound Template, the first-ever industry-standard drafting tool for sound designers.
The new product is a 1/8-, 1/4- and 1/2-inch scale template, which includes audio symbols, specs of over 40 of the most commonly used theatrical speakers, measurements and more. Stage Research’s Shannon Slate created the new template, which sells for $38 bundled with the original Sound Template. The drafting aids target users in educational environments as well as professionals looking for a handy, portable tool to take to production meetings.
Even if users draw entirely on CAD, occasions still arise when they need a good template for claiming space on a lighting plot or testing ideas on site. The product is also an ideal teaching or refresher tool since it contains all the steps and formulas for placing speakers.
Curtis Craig, assistant professor of sound design at Penn State University is already using the new Sound Template in his Sound Theory classes at the college. "The template allows me to work on design projects with the students in such a simple and intuitive way ¾ it is a distillation of so much information that is absolutely necessary for the technical aspects of sound system design. A sound designer can now quickly look at a drawing and rough-in the placement and coverage of a speaker system in a graphic language that other visual designers can grasp. It never leaves my bag, it has become the reference tool that I have been looking for."
