NORTHRIDGE, CA — Rent-A-Amp, sound reinforcement company, recently provided the live audio system for the Plymouth Jazz Festival, held on the Caribbean island of Tobago, supported by JBL Professional VerTec line arrays. With a 5,000-person audience extending to 300 feet from the stage, providing even coverage with high fidelity throughout the seating area was a significant challenge.
To overcome these obstacles, Rent-A-Amp deployed a JBL VerTec system with 16 VT4889 large-format line array elements and 16 VT4880 arrayable subwoofers arranged on each side of the stage, for 64 VerTec loudspeakers in total. Crown Macro-tech MA5002VZ and XTi amplifiers were used, as well as the Soundcraft Vi6 mixing console.
The three-day festival featured numerous world-class acts, including Elton John, Al Green, Earth Wind & Fire, Mary J. Blige, LL Cool J and Diana Ross. Now in its third year, the Plymouth Jazz Festival brings together legendary performers from around the globe for a unique concert setting. The Festival grounds are located on the coast of Tobago, with the island paradise providing a scenic backdrop to accompany the talent on stage.
“We’re extremely comfortable with the system and it has proven able to handle any type of music, from calypso to jazz to reggae to rock,” says Frank Agarrat, front of house engineer. “With JBL we have been able to get the same amount of output power with half as many VerTec loudspeakers as it takes when using some other brands. We no longer get any complaints from international acts since we started using the VerTec system.”
