SAN FRANCISCO — At San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, the first Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival will treat a record audience to more than 60 bands, including headliners Radiohead, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Jack Johnson. Outside Lands urges attendees to think and act on climate change by featuring the Eco Lands interactive conservation program, a solar-powered stage, an organic farmers’ market and plenty of educational opportunities. Meyer Sound has signed on as the festival’s official Audio Systems Partner, providing its award-winning sound reinforcement equipment in collaboration with its dealer, Hercules, Calif.-based Pro Media/UltraSound.
Serving the headliner “Lands End” stage at the Polo Field are two arrays of 17 MILO and one MILO 120 line array loudspeakers, augmented by two side arrays of eight more MILOs each. Two hangs of ten M3D-Sub directional subwoofers handle the low end, with five more in the center pit. Frontfill features the new UPQ-1P wide coverage loudspeakers, with delay rigs of four MSL-10 and eight MSL-4 loudspeakers.
At the Speedway Meadow “Twin Peaks” stage, the main system comprises two hangs of seven MILO and one MILO 120 line array loudspeakers each, along with seven 700-HP subwoofers flown per side. Four UPQ-1Ps provides front fill, and four MSL-4 loudspeakers cover the VIP area. A Galileo loudspeaker management system handles system drive and processing.
Onstage monitoring on both stages is covered by 14 MJF-212A stage monitors in front, with stage sidefill provided by four more MSL-4s and four 700-HP subwoofers. A 600-HP subwoofer is stationed at each of the drum risers.
“At large outdoor festivals like this one, the strength of the Meyer gear becomes very clear,” said Derek Featherstone, UltraSound's director of rentals and touring. “The MILO sounds great across a wide range of material, and in an environment like this with multiple stages, its coverage is more manageable than other speaker systems, providing greater control of stage-to-stage spillover.”
With its manufacturing headquarters in Berkeley, Calif. Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is produced by Superfly Productions, Another Planet Entertainment and Star Hill Presents, in cooperation with the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department. Proceeds of the festival will benefit San Francisco Parks and local charitable organizations.
