Mt. Rushmore Speaks with Community

KEYSTONE, S.D. – One of America’s most beloved and iconic monuments, the 60-foot high carvings of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt on Mt. Rushmore now features a complete audio and paging system based on Community WET and R-Series loudspeakers.

Millions of Americans and international visitors have traveled to the Black Hills of South Dakota to view this modern wonder and witness its nightly lighting ceremonies and other special events. A massive redevelopment project added an amphitheater, museum, visitors’ center, gift shop, restaurant and other tourist facilities to the national park.

Four remote public address systems are comprised of 21 R.5 all-weather loudspeakers covering most of the facility. The remote systems are used mainly for announcements and general PA chores, and can broadcast globally or in zones.

The amphitheater, which hosts a range of special events, movies and musical presentations as well as a nightly lighting ceremony during the summer months, has been outfitted with a system based around 20 WET315 cabinets on two main towers and two delay towers. Not surprisingly, weather was a factor in selecting the all Community system as wind, rain, snow and extreme heat are common throughout the four seasons of operation.
