Martin Audio Provides the Punch for Hard Rock Cafe

BOSTON — A mainstay in Copley Square for 18 years, the Hard Rock Cafe Boston has opened its doors in the historic Faneuil Hall area on Clinton Street.  It is one of the city's largest entertainment destinations with more than 16,000 square feet of space including a 514-seat restaurant, the Cavern Club, which features Live Music, not to mention a collection of iconic rock ‘n’ roll instruments.

After the move, it was determined that the original audio was unsatisfactory, with low intelligibility and poor coverage and low frequency reproduction. As Chaz Loews of Matrix I points out, " It was a poor match for the level of shows they were doing, and for the room.  After many complaints from bands, audiences and the client, we were called in.

As the house sound company Chaz continues, "we recommended the Martin Audio W8LM speakers, since we'd already brought in larger W8LC speakers for their bigger shows. They get a lot of national acts like Jewel, Joe Perry, Steven Tyler, Phil Vassar and others traveling the northeast.

"They previously had another PA that didn't have the horsepower for the room in terms of coverage and structural issues," says Loews. "As a subcontractor, we'd already installed a house PA and Plasmas and other stuff so we've had a relationship with them for a while.

"We'd been bringing our PA for certain shows and they decided they needed a system in house that could handle anything, so we took the previous speakers and we used them as a delay line in back of the bar.

"Ultimately, they wanted a system that was unobtrusive because of the dining area, yet one with the punch of a full size line array, so went smaller with four W8LMs a side because the ceilings are low and the throw is not that long.

"The client was especially happy about the clarity and usable gain of the speaker system. The pattern of the Martin LM speakers matches the room quite well, making it an easier system to mix on, while representing the sound of the artist properly."
