NASHVILLE, TN — Veteran front of house engineer Bruce “BK” Knight passed away April 21, 2024 after complications from a brain aneurysm and stroke he suffered in early April. Born May 9, 1963, in Cedar Rapids, IA, he was 60 years old at the time of his passing on April 22, 2024.

Knight had an early interest in music from an early age, and played guitar, but his interests shifted into audio production, getting his chops mixing sound in clubs and for local events. But Knight’s career took an upward swing in 1982, when he was hired by Chicago-based dB Sound founder Harry Witz (now at Clair Global), who saw promise in Knight’s self-taught skills, amazing work ethic and easy going, friendly personality — the latter being an important asset when working with a variety of clients in a service industry. During Knight’s 11-year tenure with dB Sound he worked as both an systems engineer and front of house mixer.

Having earned a reputation as a first-call FOH engineer, Knight left dB Sound in 1993 to go freelance and during his 41-year career worked with a wide range of top clients. Among these were Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, The Black Crowes, Prince, Bob Seger, The Doobie Brothers, Don Henley, The Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Lyle Lovett and many more.

Knight was well-liked — among both artists and crews — and would often reach out and take time to help novices. He will be missed by his many friends and colleagues throughout the industry.

At press time, there was no word on a memorial service.
