Dynacord Cobra Helps Train U.S. Army

LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. – Though highly portable the Dynacord Cobra-2 PWH loudspeaker system packed enough power to unleash weapons-grade audio when called to do so. Buck Tallman of Dynacord Sales Reps Quantum Sales & Technology recently got such a call from Mike Delio, Special Tactics Trainer at the Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos Army Airfield, California, who needed a high-output sound system to help 80 soldiers mentally prepare for battlefield SPL levels during a weekend-long training exercise.

Tallman explains: “We used the Cobra system to help train 80 troops on their way to Kosovo and Iraq. They were doing drills on clearing residential areas and Mike Delio wanted to simulate the SPL of an ambush situation. We set up the Cobra system behind a fence and blasted them with the sound of machinegun fire and explosions when they least expected it. T

hough it was a serious training exercise, it was a lot of fun laying in wait for the next group to pass thru my lane. Cranking up the sound with the CMS1000 mixer I knew that the sonic clarity it gives would enable us to get what we were after as well as hitting them with 130dB. Another interesting fact is that we powered the whole rig (via the Cobra’s dedicated amp/processing rack) from a little two-horsepower generator — they couldn’t believe that much sound was being driven by that little generator — just goes to show how efficient this system really is."

“They were extremely pleased with the outcome,” Tallman adds, “—the base commander even made a special trip out to the field just to shake my hand and say thank you. We wish the soldiers all the best on their missions and were honored to have helped them train.”
