NEW YORK — Grammy-winning rock vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews joined guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Tim Reynolds for a short summer tour of three theatre dates, which culminated with an intimate acoustic set at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. The duo’s lengthy set, recorded for the Live at Radio City Music Hall album, entertained the crowd via a Meyer Sound MILO high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker system.

Matthews and Reynolds’s eclectic guitar duets were delivered through two arrays of 12 Meyer Sound MILO cabinets and two MILO 120 expanded coverage high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers per side, augmented by a center hang of six MICA compact high-power curvilinear array loudspeakers. Four 700-HP ultrahigh-power subwoofers handled the low frequencies, while two MICA cabinets and four UPA-1P compact wide coverage loudspeakers provided frontfill. A pair of MJF-212A high-power stage monitors supplied foldback to the two musicians. A Galileo loudspeaker management system handled signal processing for the stripped-down show.

According to Tom Lyon, systems engineer for DMB sound providers Pro Media/UltraSound of Hercules, Calif., the Meyer Sound system suited the historic venue’s architecture. “The hall’s design dictates that the main PA hangs over the audience,” says Lyon. “The MILOs and center-hung MICAs helped provide consistent power to cover the difficult area under the main arrays.”

Lyon used Meyer Sound’s MAPP Online Pro acoustical prediction software to streamline system design and setup. Pro Media/UltraSound received local support from Rainbow Production Services of Hampstead, N.H., for the three dates.

The show was a success with 27 songs played live to nearly 6,000 fans, and captured for release in Blu-Ray with an uncompressed PCM soundtrack, as well as in CD, DVD and downloadable formats. “Dave Matthews Band has toured with Meyer Sound products for more than a decade,” says Derek Featherstone, Pro Media/UltraSound’s director of rentals and touring. “We’ve had great success with Meyer products in the past, so the choice was a natural one.”
