BOGATA, Colombia – The Gaira Café in Bogata's Barrio Chico neighborhood was opened in 1998 by brothers Guillermo and Carlos Vives to pair their love of music and food. Brothers Leonardo and Mauricio Vilar from Sonic Design chose Adamson gear for the sound.
Both sets of brothers are well-known in Colombia and beyond: Carlos Vives has won Grammy and Latin Grammy awards. Guillermo Vives is a longtime restaurateur. And C. Vilar Amplificacion Professional, the largest sound rental company in Colombia, was the first Adamson customer in Latin America.
Based on their experience with Adamson gear, the 2,585-square-foot, two-level venue was equipped with an Adamson Metrix system without a shootout. "It is very powerful, without missing clarity and definition," said Mauricio Vilar. "To our ears, it outperforms all systems in its category out there."
A pair of M-15s were temporarily used as a P.A. System until the right system could be brought in. The M-15s are now permanently placed on the stage as wedges and an additional two M-15s were added.
The main system is a flown stereo system located right at the lip of the stage. Each hang is made up of a single Metrix Sub, four Metrix and two Metrix Ws, which offer more than enough power for the venue. The height of the system is calculated to cover both floors of the venue.
The only glitch that the Vilar brothers encountered was that the audience is placed on the first and second floor, but the FOH engineer is on a closed-off third floor. To work around that problem, two additional Metrix were brought in and time aligned as reference monitors.
Some additional work at the club included some lighting, which was installed at the same time as the new speaker system. Lab.gruppen with Dolby Lake provide power and processing.
