Sting Performs in Brescia with Support from Outline Gear

BRESCIA, Italy – For Sting's Symphonicities tour stop at Brescia's Piazza della Loggia, Cipiesse Produzioni per lo Spettacolo provided Outline gear including 12 Butterfly, nine Mantas and four Subtechs per side.
The system, which met the goal of covering 73 meters length-wise with an even 110 dB of SPL without spill on the stage, was designed using Outline OpenArray 3D software. Cipiesse's setup also met the request from the tour's FOH engineer, Howard Page, that all the gear be clear of the stage and flown.

Sting performed his hits with an entourage that includes the 50-piece Ensemble Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sarah Hicks, along with band members Jorge Calandrelli, David Hartley, Michel Legrand, Rob Mathes, Vince Mendoza, Steven Mercurio, Bill Ross, Robert Sadin and Nicola Tescari.

Giancarlo Paladini, head audio technician working on behalf of Cipiesse, credited the Outline software for its "surgical precision."

To provide even coverage over the 73 meter distance, "we used two distinct Outline VLA, with an array made up exclusively of subs between them. 9+9 Mantas elements (120°) were aimed at the audience in such as way as to cover a distance of 30 meters, while for the remaining distance we had 12+12 Butterfly enclosures.

"As I said, there was also a third array, made up of just subs, positioned between the Mantas and the Butterfly systems," Paladini continued, adding that "we kept the stage clear of low frequencies, once more using OpenArray 3D so successfully that, thanks to a rather unusual cardioid sub configuration, somebody on stage even said that the subs were switched off."
