GELSENKIRCHEN, GERMANY — Tour rental sound company Sirius Showequipment AG recently provided audio services for a sold-out concert featuring Germany’s most popular band Pur. With a supporting symphony orchestra on twin stages at the Veltins Arena, the event drew a crowd of approximately 65,000 people.

For the Pur concert, Sirius Showequipment deployed a large, multi-zone JBLProfessional VerTec line arrays system to meet the show’s in-the-round requirements, which were made more complex by the use of twin performing stages with a connecting ramp. The secondary stage allowed band members to cross onto the symphony orchestra’s performance area for a special classically influenced section of the pop music concert.

The system included 10 primary VERTEC arrays, comprising a total of 120 VT4889 full-size line array elements, 48 VT4887 compact line array elements and 32 VT4880 arrayable subwoofers. Additionally, 12 new VT4887ADP-AN powered compact line array elements with JBL DrivePack technology were deployed as special center-fill arrays.

The VERTEC system exceeded expectations, according to Wolfgang “Schabbach” Neumann, Owner of Sirius Showequipment, who has used VerTec for past events. “Everybody was really happy with the system’s performance, especially regarding the great sound,” he said. “The overall large-venue coverage capabilities and the light weight of the total system, which makes rigging much easier, are positive aspects of VerTec.”

Originally named Arena auf Schalke, the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, is the nation’s largest indoor venue and one of the world’s most modern stadiums. It is home to the football club FC Shalke 04, and the arena has also hosted five matches in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2004 UEFA Champions League final. The Veltins Arena was designed for multipurpose use, evident by its busy concert schedule.
