Polish Rugby Stadium Upgrades with D.A.S. Audio Gear

GDYNIA, Poland – Sopot, the installation division of Mega Music, upgraded the sound system for the 15,139-seat Gdynia municipal rugby stadium with DR-12 2-way full range loudspeakers; BiDriver Plus, a 2-way, mid-high unit for long throw applications; and CL-6T ceiling speakers; all from D.A.S. Audio.
Mega Music's Piotr Nowiński noted that the DR-12's intelligibility, even coverage, sensitivity and flat frequency response made them well-suited for the audience seating areas. The long throw distance requirements of the field, meanwhile, led to the choice of D.A.S. BiDrivers Plus.

Sopot used a total of 84 D.A.S. DR-12 enclosures for the stadium grandstands, which were divided into 44 zones. D.A.S. custom-built the enclosures to achieve an IP54 rating for outdoor use.

The rugby field was divided into four zones, covered by eight D.A.S. Audio BiDriver Plus loudspeaker systems. Sopot also installed CL-6T ceiling speakers in another 30 zones covering the stadium's corridors and some outside areas.

The audio system is managed by a Symetrix SymNet DSP processor, networked "via a 4-node CobraNet setup," said Nowiński. The main system is fed by Ashly NE8250PE multichannel, networked amplifiers.

Both the SymNet and Ashly amps are controlled via a PC application. Audio mixing is handled via a Crest Audio XR20 analog mixing desk located in the control room. The corridor areas are run by a Bosh Presidio network controller and Bosh PRS amplifiers.

NowiÅ„ski said the upgrade has not gone unnoticed among the stadium's management, players and fans, with SPL between 111 – 113 dB, "with no significant drops to be found anywhere." He also credited D.A.S. Audio for its support.
