JUST ABOUT A MINUTE’S WALK FROM THE POPULAR JUHU BEACH in Mumbai is the new Hometown Café, which is the latest in restaurant brands from the China Gate group.

The new venture, which occupies the space where Deltalia once stood, has a relaxed ambience that echoes a feeling of homecoming.

Stylized to create a rustic feel, the walls are thronged with postcards and paintings, while stained-glass lamps of olden times constitute an integral part of the warm and woody decor. With the unmistakable shades of a modern day cafe, one can find an eclectic assortment of food and beverages here. The cafe intends to create an atmosphere and feeling of belonging, similar to the feeling one would get on returning to one’s hometown.

We all know that the ambience of a particular setting goes a long way in creating the atmosphere, and in the case of the Hometown Cafe, the well-planned audio setup has been a tremendous help in building the ambience. The audio levels at the venue are set to just about the perfect range, delivering clear and crisp ambient music that’s not too loud, but also allowing people to stir up and get engrossed in interesting conversations.

Mumbai’s Narain Pro Audio & Lighting Pvt Ltd has delivered the perfect audio solution with Turbosound loudspeaker products, and the sights and sounds of the venue suggests that the company has done a very commendable job. The setup consists of six Impact55T compact passive 2-way architectural speakers powered by NX Audio’s MT-601 MK2 power amplifier, and two TCX-15B single 15″ compact bandpass subwoofers powered by NX Audio’s MT 800-MK2 amplifiers for the lower indoor level. A further six Impact55T and one TCX-15B sub cover the open-air terrace.

The Turbosound Impact series was the client’s preferred choice of loudspeakers, reports Motwani. “They liked the sound at a couple of pubs we’d done, and liked the small size and tonal quality of the units – they sound like much larger speakers than they really are, specially when coupled with TCX-15B subs,” he says. “Also the typical SPL’s needed were 90-92dB, with no distortion, on weekend nights and small size was critical.”

The combination works harmoniously to provide the perfect ambient sound reinforcement, helping to build up the kind of warm atmosphere that the cafe desires to project, and in the subtlest way.

Discussing team Narain’s experience of completing the project, Manoj Motwani said, “We’ve extended our services to the China Gate group in the past and have provided complete audio solutions for a number of their projects, so it’s been a great experience for us to work with them again. This project was unique in terms of the concept, and so we had to be extra sure about the equipment we planned to deploy. In the end, the install was completed quickly and smoothly, and the final result has definitely pleased us as well as our clients.”

The management at the China Gate group also confirmed their satisfaction with the manner and degree of professionalism with which the install was completed. They also confirmed that their regular patrons enjoy the music and the ambience as much as the food and beverage available at the cafe.

“It’s fantastic,” says owner Mr Krishna. “I really like the speakers’ response for all kinds of popular music – including house, retro, rock or even country. I plan to use Turbosound in all my next projects.”

The Hometown Cafe has a lot to give, with their offerings promising to suit your every mood. So the next time you’re tired of strolling around on Juhu beach, and want to experience the sights and sounds that would make you feel right at home, do drop by the Hometown Café.
