Announced earlier this year, the SP-1 Standard Pencil microphones from Universal Audio are now shipping worldwide. These are packaged in a stereo mic pack with two matched small-diaphragm condenser SP-1 mics, two mic clips, two foam windscreens, a T-bar mount for stereo use and a travel case — for a street price of $399.
The SP-1’s classic cardioid design, high SPL tolerance, and smooth, clear top-end deliver consistently clean capture of acoustic guitars, drum overheads, piano, percussion, stringed instruments, horns and more — at any volume, in any environment — and can be used singly or as a stereo matched-set in tight X/Y patterns or spaced pairs.
Beyond their retro nickel finish and roadworthy build, specs include 142 dB SPL handling, 200-ohm impedance, 12.6mV/Pa (-38dB) sensitivity and a wide a 20 Hz – 20k Hz bandwidth.
The Universal Audio SP-1 microphones are shipping now at a street price of $399/pair, including all accessories.
