LAS VEGAS — It might still be too early to know exactly what the upcoming event will look like and sound like. But last week Insomniac Events CEO Pasquale Rotella suggested that the odds are good that Electric Daisy Carnival, set for the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in late May, will be the first big festival to return to the U.S. after the Covid-19 shutdowns began in March 2020.
“With the world being shutdown for over a year, I’m happy to announce we’re on the way to being able to celebrate in person,” Rotella announced on Instagram and other social media platforms on April 8. “Book your flights, hotels & shuttles — EDC Las Vegas is on for May 21+22+23!
“We are moving forward as planned & will be working closely with local & state officials to make the show as safe as possible,” Rotella added, on the 25-year celebration, first postponed to late 2020, then to May 2021. “You can expect the full EDC experience with no details spared, from the festival grounds to the music, stages, art, performers, artists & fireworks.”
Although specific details remain sketchy, including total crowd size and the performing lineup, Insomniac is betting that the increasing rate of U.S. residents receiving the vaccines and safety protocols will allow the event to happen — even if some protocols like the use of masks may still be required.
As things stand, the outdoor event, from May 21-23, is scheduled to take place more than a month after Nevada and California expanded vaccine eligibility to anyone age 16 and older (April 5 and 15, respectively).
