Special limited editions of Royer’s SF series ribbon microphones are offered in a new Black Eclipse plating and made to order with a choice of custom colored screens.

Rounding out Royer Labs’ 25th anniversary, the company has announced special limited editions of its SF series ribbon microphones in a new Black Eclipse plating and made to order with a choice of custom colored screens.

Royer’s SF series ribbon microphones combine a warm, natural sound pickup with exceptional detail, nuance and dead-flat frequency response. Stereo SF series mics (such as the SF-12s pictured here) are a go-to choice for drum overheads and are exquisite on piano and full orchestra pickup, with its two matched 1.8-micron ribbon capsules placed one above the other, each aimed 45 degrees from center in the classic Blumlein stereo configuration.

The mono SF-2 (also with the high-definition 1.8-micron ribbon element) features onboard active electronics with an output of -38 dB, putting its sensitivity on par with that of phantom powered condenser mics. The SF-2 is a popular choice for capturing acoustical instruments and classical miking, where it offers extremely natural reproduction of strings, woodwinds and the like.

Prices for the colored editions are $100 above the standard models, and mics can be custom-ordered through any Royer dealer.
