HOUSTON – As far as halftime shows go, the Christmas day matchup between the Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens at NRG Stadium in Houston wasn’t Beyoncé’s first rodeo. But it gave the halftime star of Super Bowl XLVII (in 2013) the first chance to perform songs from her acclaimed eighth studio album, Cowboy Carter, on a live stage in her hometown.

The album, released last March, topped the 2024 charts and received many accolades, and while the artist has been quiet about touring plans so far, she hinted that a big announcement might come in early 2025.

Beyoncé’s performance proved enough of a draw for the Christmas day game in Houston for some to nickname the matchup the Beyoncé Bowl.  The Dec. 25 performance was also the first big entertainment extravaganza to be performed during an NFL game on the holiday, and the game also happened to be the first NFL matchup to appear live on Netflix. (Nielsen stats indicated average viewership at 24.3 million viewers.)

ATK – A Clair Global Brand provided a massive JBL rig for the game and show, which included 84 VTX A12 speakers and 40 VTX S28 subwoofers. The setup featured 14 custom carts, each loaded with six VTX A12s and two VTX S28s. Four additional carts, each with three VTX S28s that were either front-facing or cardioid, completed the halftime show setup. Together, they delivered clarity and punch to the fans in the 72,000-capacity stadium.

While the halftime show may have lived up to the hype, it offered only some solace for Houston fans, who had to see their team roundly defeated by the Ravens with a final score of 31-2.
