Mary Peavey Joins National Board of Afterschool Alliance

WASHINGTON, DC — The Afterschool Alliance today announced the appointment of Mary Peavey to its board of directors. The Meridian-based Peavey is the President of Peavey Electronics Corporation, a maker of musical instruments and sound equipment. She has been an active supporter of afterschool programs and the Afterschool Alliance since 2005 and helped make history last year when she was part of the team that helped make Mississippi the first state to offer a car tag benefitting afterschool programs. The new tags carry the slogan, "Afterschool Is Key."

Metallica Tours Europe with Meyer Sound

LONDON — Legendary metal band Metallica embarked on a series of European shows at the end of June for their “Sick of the Studio '07” tour. For its concert dates the band is carrying a Meyer Sound system built around the MILO high-power curvilinear array loudspeaker, 700-HP ultrahigh-power subwoofer, and the new MJF-212A high-power stage monitor. A Galileo loudspeaker management system provides system processing and drive. Taylor, Mich.-based Thunder Audio is providing the sound system, with local support from Westfalen Sound of Emsdetten, Germany, and AVAB CAC from Oslo, Norway.

Wembley Stadium Packs 70 Outline Butterflies for Live Earth

LONDON — Live Earth, the mega-concert produced as a tribute to planet Earth, featured 70 Outline Butterfly Hi-packs installed by Britannia Row Productions at Wembley Stadium. The seventy Outline Butterfly Hi-packs were used along with twenty Subtech 218; Outline T Series amplifiers powered the system. Sherif El Barbari was system engineer for the event, as well as for the Lady Diana memorial concert on July 1.

Butlins Entertainment Venues Opt for Martin Audio

BIRMINGHAM, U.K. — Last year Butlins Holiday Resort in Minehead undertook a major sound and lighting refurbishment, with a view to rolling the model out at their other resorts in Skegness and Bognor Regis. This aim has now been realized, and the Birmingham-based Cloud One Group completed the new technology infrastructure at both sites this spring. Cloud One has equipped both Skyline Pavilions and REDS in Skegness and Bognor Regis and also supplied Butlins with 16  Martin Audio low-profile LE1500 monitors — which they will add to their existing stock of LE400 enclosures already in use throughout the various resorts.

American Cancer Society Partners with Lectrosonics for the Relay for Life

RIO RANCHO, NM —Lectrosonics, Inc. recently supported the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life event in Rio Rancho in June with the loan of two Long Ranger IV systems for audio coverage. The event was held between at the track & field arena at Rio Rancho High School. Michael Hetmer, event chair for the 2007 relay, contacted Lectrosonics for help with the sound system.

Caltech Beckman Auditorium Gets Big Sound with Bag End

PASADENA, CA — The sound system of Beckman Auditorium of California Institute of Technology was recently upgraded with a new console, processors, mains, and lines. However, finding subwoofers to fit into the small space available near the stage was a problem. They chose the Bag End compact, 15-inch-high PD18E-AD self-powered INFRA subwoofers, which fit comfortably in the front of the auditorium without interfering with the audience sight lines.
