Show Report: 131st AES Convention

Broadway Design: The Book of Mormon

Broadway musical The Book of Mormon was conceived in 2003 while South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone were meeting with friend and producer Scott Rudin (South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut) in Manhattan. Noting the similarity between Team America's marionettes and Avenue Q's puppets, Rudin suggested they see Robert Lopez' Broadway musical. Afterwards they discovered a shared interest in both musical theater and Mormonism. After years of collaboration and workshops, they went straight to Broadway, with rehearsals and previews each lasting less than a month before opening March 24 at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on 49th Street.

The majority of low frequency sound reproduction is from vented loudspeaker enclosures – that is, loudspeakers that have a port in the enclosure. Nearly all professional loudspeaker enclosures are vented to improve their low frequency output. Including a properly designed port in a loudspeaker enclosure is a straightforward way of gaining additional low frequency output over a simple closed-box enclosure. Unfortunately, port design is usually a compromise, and this affects how the port functions at high output levels. This article seeks to enlighten the reader about how the port in a vented box operates, and to provide some guidelines for identifying good port design.

Sade’s Soldier of Love Tour

Helen Folasade Adu is widely known by the same name as her band, Sade, and both are on a worldwide tour, on the heels of this year's Ultimate Collection.
