DiGiCo SD9, a.k.a. “Red Snapper”

DiGiCo unveiled their new SD9, also called the "Red Snapper." Made from rolled and anodized aluminium rather than steel, it is strong and light – the whole desk weighs less than 110 lbs. It has a D-Rack digital stage interface and CAT5E digital multicore, and has the capability to record up to 56 channels direct onto a multitrack recorder or DAW.
The SD9's work surface features a 15-inch digital TFT LCD touch sensitive screen, 24 touch-sensitive motorized faders, Flexi Channels (allowing the user to switch between mono and stereo on each channel), 16 buses, high resolution bar graph meters, quick access encoders and buttons plus RGB backlit LCD scribble strips.

It also features third generation Stealth Digital Processing software, which includes many DiGiCo features such as global scope, snapshot and channel specific recall. There is a global crossfade for each console section and eight user Macros for fast access to presets.

The new D-Rack, connected by digital Cat5e cable, features 32 microphone inputs, eight line outputs and eight modular outputs that can be selected as either analog or AES, providing a total of 32 I/O. If you wanted to expand on that, a second D-Rack can be connected via an additional CAT5E, doubling the number of I/O.

The D-Rack can either be floor or rack mounted with the option of a standard single power supply or dual redundant supplies. A further option provides a fiber optic connection, allowing full compatibility with any DiGiCo SD Series console fitted with optics giving access to a maximum of 64 inputs and 32 outputs on stage.

There is also a standard MADI connection, which allows 56 channels of multitrack recording output to a computer running any leading multitrack recording software as well as to any other DiGiCo console or rack.
