Event Details
On Sept. 15, on the eve of Mexico’s Independence Day, and just a few weeks before Mexico’s new president Claudia Sheinbaum took office, former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador presided over the televised festivities at the Zócalo city center in Mexico City, performing the annual “El Grito” ritual, or “cry for independence” along with the singing of the national anthem and ringing of the Bell of Dolores. The event also included a free concert featuring Sinaloa’s Banda MS along with a Mixe band representing the indigenous people from the eastern highlands of the Mexican state of Oaxaca.
