Well, here we are, having mostly gotten past the doldrums of Black Friday, a day that — in no small amount of irony — follows a holiday dedicated to offering simple thanks for what we do have. And this is the season where one of the most common questions heard is “So, what do you want for Christmas?” Yeah, I’m one of those old fools who would probably answer “Peace on Earth,” but I’m also old enough to realize that ain’t gonna happen anytime soon.
As I get older (and supposedly wiser), intangibles like health, good friends, good family all seem to bubble to the top of my wish list, and in that regard I have achieved true wealth.
We all need to invest in some occasional introspection, and for me that comes in appreciating what I do and how that helps others. I was truly inspired this month by the interview with 2024 Parnelli Awards Audio Innovator honoree Buford Jones, who after decades of touring with top artists, shifted perspectives and turned to helping others learn the craft. Besides also being one of the nicest guys on the planet, he truly deserves this honor and embodies the spirit of what the Parnelli Awards are all about.
As for me, I am truly blessed to be a part of FRONT of HOUSE. And the words from that Hallmark card-quality quote about “loving your job and never having to work a day in your life” (attributed to everyone from Confucius to Mark Twain) rings true around here.
And that may be the greatest gift of all.
