This month is the 20th anniversary of FRONT of HOUSE, which arrived in October 2002, as founder Terry Lowe’s audio-side spinoff to PLSN, our lighting / staging / projection publication, which began in February 2000. The concept of a lighting / visuals-oriented magazine first came to Terry while he was working at Performance magazine in the early 1990s. In the mid-late 1990s, while Terry worked with some guy named George Petersen at the recording-oriented Mix magazine, he also saw the potential of a publication for the sound reinforcement industry.
However, Terry knew a business startup required slow, methodical steps, so his Timeless Communications company began with PLSN, which was overwhelmingly well-received by production pros. And with that successful launch, plans for FRONT of HOUSE began forming and the magazine debuted at London’s Plasa show in 2002.
Today, both PLSN and FOH are strong and healthy, in large part due to the amazing team who put out the magazines each month. Having edited pro audio magazines for four+ decades, I have never worked with a team that were as dedicated, creative and hardworking as the Timeless crew.
As an independent publisher, we are not under the thumb of 14 layers of corporate management, so we’re free to focus on creating a superior product for our readers. It’s what makes us different. I like that.
But I should emphasize that FRONT of HOUSE — in print and digital editions, online web and newsletters — is actually your magazine, and it’s the spirit of the readers that make any publication successful.
