At 2010 Musikmesse/Prolight+ Sound in Frankfurt, Avid demonstrated a work-in-progress MADI interface which has been in the pipeline for 12 months and looks set to become an available product in the not-too-distant future.
"It connects us via MADI to other MADI systems. We'll eventually be able to send our inputs out via MADI to a broadcast truck or a MADI recorder, or receive MADI from the stage box or other inputs of some other desk that has a MADI protocol," explained Robb Allan, Solutions Development for Live Sound at Avid.
"People use our systems because they like to be able to record directly to Pro-Tools – and we do that very well – but they might like the ability to record from our systems onto some other platform, so eventually we hope it will be possible to have one card recording to Pro Tools and another card sent straight out via MADI to another recorder or broadcaster in parallel."
