KANAGAWA, Japan — MSI Japan has joined the L-Acoustics Rental Network and taken delivery of a K1/KUDO system and LA-RAK touring racks fitted with LA8 amplified controllers. MSI Japan’s director, Shuzo Fujii, also met recently with L-Acoustics founder Dr. Christian Heil. “I flew over to France with MSI Vice President Motoshige Nishio and listened to the K1 system at L-Acoustics,” said MSI director Shuzo Fujii. “The moment I heard the system, I immediately knew I would be buying it, and we were given the opportunity to become part of the pilot program.”

The K1 system made its Japanese — and, indeed, Asian — debut with the artist Masaharu Fukuyama, who has embarked on a three-month arena tour of the country. L-Acoustics consultant Sherif el Barbari traveled to Japan to provide some training with the new K1/KUDO system prior to the tour.

“Having just used the K1 system for the first time, I think it’s great,” said Fujii after the first concert. “It has the most advanced rigging system, which shortens the setup time for us and means we can do our job not only quickly but safely. As for sound quality, the mid-high for vocals is extremely smooth, and the sound was clear and full-bodied, even right at the back of the venue.

“K1 is definitely an upgraded version of V-DOSC — this system is able to bring out the small nuances of the sound while also being very powerful,” Fujii added. “As for K1-SUB and SB28, we’ve never managed to get such low, tight sound from any subs before. We’ve definitely made the right choice in purchasing the K1 system.”

L-Acoustics’ new Rental Network is based on the Network Charter of three working principles:

  • The assurance of worldwide systems availability with inventory thresholds for various rental segments
  • The establishment of a new “K” universal standard to ensure performance and compatibility of systems
  • The guarantee of qualified technicians to ensure standards of excellence through education

Although MSI Japan’s role as Rental Network member is new, the company has an 11-year relationship with L-Acoustics, dating back to 1998, when MSI Japan became the first V-DOSC partner in Asia.
