BIRMINGHAM, U.K. — The Academy Music Group (AMG) has once again recruited the production team of Adlib Audio (sound), Utopium (lighting) and Dimension Audio (video projection and distribution) for its latest venue, O2 Academy Birmingham. “We appointed the same three production suppliers who worked with us in Sheffield and Leeds in 2008,” said AMG Operations Director Richard Maides. “The response we’ve had from the industry about our in-house production is second to none.”

Commenting on the latest project, Adlib Audio managing director Andy Dockerty said he was glad to be part of the Birmingham development. “We have installed an L-Acoustics V-DOSC system for the main room,” he said. “Due to the scale and layout of O2 Academy Birmingham, we specified this larger format cabinet for this site.”

The rig comprises of six V-DOSC cabinets on each side of the stage with two dV-DOSC cabinets each side as under-hangs. There are also two dV-DOSC cabinets on each side to assist with audio coverage under balcony areas. Handling the low-frequency extension are six SB28 sub cabinets per side. L-Acoustics LA8 processing and amplification units control the V-DOSC system.

“This is now our second L-Acoustics installation with Adlib and the Academy group, the first being in the newest venue in Bournemouth,” Dockerty said. “With the size and scale of the Birmingham venue V-DOSC was clearly the right choice.”
