LONDON — Relentless Garage, the new incarnation of the iconic venue, The Garage, re-opened at the end of June after a three-year closure. The refurbished venue includes a substantial Turbosound loudspeaker system. Along with a seated format option, the Turbosound system makes Relentless Garage well-suited as a venue for acoustic events and comedy as well as the live rock music it is known for.

Dimension Audio was contracted by the Mama group to design, supply and install an integrated audio and video solution for Relentless Garage. The venue represents a sizable investment for the Mama Group, which will operate under its Mean Fiddler banner.

Given the history of The Garage and its contribution to the Punk era, the Mama Group was determined to produce a venue that provided a no-compromise technical facility installation.

The venue will operate primarily as a live music venue for the Mean Fiddler Circuit, with the development of club nights as an additional focus.

For the main room, Dimension Audio’s Scott Wakelin and Paul Struselis set about putting together a Turbosound Aspect Front of House PA.

“The TA-500 and the TSW-218 lend themselves perfectly to venues of this size and, having used the TA-500s and the TSW-218s on other recent projects, they were the obvious choice,” said Wakelin. “The Front of House PA, which comprises four TA-500 with four TSW-218s, is powered with Turbosound T-25, T-45 and the new T-90 amplifiers and controlled with the dedicated Turbosound LMS-D24 units.”

Flown two thirds of the way down the room is the new Turbosound TCS-122s range, one unit per side to fill the bars area. The TCS-122 has the same dendritic horn concept that the TA-500s use which, Wakelin said, delivers a very precise, clean HF response.

Side fills were also a single TA-500 cabinet per side, while floor monitoring came in the shape of 10 Turbosound NuQ-15s and a B-15 sub.

Upstairs at The Relentless Garage there is a smaller, more intimate space, which is also primarily used as a live music venue. It uses a Turbosound TCS-152 and B-18 combination for the Front of House PA alongside Turbosound TFM-212 floor monitors.

The third and final area to benefit from Dimension’s installation is the Mini Bar, an intimate feeder bar with live capability for small-scale acoustic gigs, stand-up comedy or spoken word shows. Here, TCS-122s once again provide audio coverage.

“The opening night was a huge success as Bloc Party lifted the roof in front of a capacity 600 crowd as part of their Glastonbury Festival warm up,” Wakelin said.
