NICKELSDORF, Austria — Sammy Hagar, who joins fellow ex-Van Halen alum Michael “Mikey” Anthony (bassist), guitarist Joe Satriani and drummer Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers to support the debut self-titled album for Chickenfoot, wasn’t content to just rent the Telefunken Elektroakustik ELA M 250 microphone used in the studio.
“This is the best sounding mic I’ve ever used on my voice,” Hagar said, “and I’ve used ‘em all.” The album was produced by Andy Johns, and he, too, added, that “the ELA M 250 is a gorgeous-sounding piece of kit.”
John Cuniberti, who supplied various gear for the album recorded at Hagar’s San Rafael recording studio and at Skywalker Ranch in Marin County in California, noted that the mic was originally tested as a rental. “Sammy and producer Andy Johns were so impressed with the ELA M 250 that Sammy purchased the mic, refusing to return it.”
The Telefunken ELA M 250 comes with a new CK12 dual membrane capsule, Swiss wound custom transformer, vintage-style power supply, 10 meter Gotham Audio cable, locking leather bound flight case, wooden microphone box, owner manual, and warranty.
