Allen & Heath iLive Becomes Cornerstone of Scottish Church

SCOTLAND — Cornerstone Church in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland, has installed an Allen & Heath iLive digital system comprising an iDR10 Mixrack and iLive-80 control surface. The church recently relocated to a larger building requiring a new sound system, as the old system was still in use in the original building, which is now used as a youth center. The iLive system forms the core of the new system, feeding a flown Logic Systems line array and bass bins.

“The decision to go with Allen & Heath was made after a demonstration against our existing analogue desk, where we were surprised at how warm sounding the iLive was for a digital system. We looked at both analog and digital systems during the decision process, and the versatility of digital, combined with the smaller footprint per number of channels, won out,” explains Cornerstone’s sound engineer Allister Dickson.

The new system manages the church services and performances by the resident band and choir. Input requirements include 15 vocal microphones, drum mics and various DI inputs for instruments. iLive is configured to give six monitor mixes and a stereo main mix from the rack, while the surface is configured to give three separate mixes to CD and PC for recording, and a live feed to the church’s crèche.

“This configuration gives us the option of four different mixes, and we have the option to expand in the future by adding an output card to the rack. I like the fact that all channels in and out are configurable with all the processors available, so I can put a compressor on all or any of our mic channels. This is very useful when we have "problem" singers, whose voices tend to peak,” concludes Dickson.
