FRANCE — For the past 10 years, the Ile de France region has supported the Solidays music festival to raise AIDS awareness. A play on the words solidarity and holidays, Solidays is dedicated to both concepts, and its timing in the event calendar means it represents the kick-off for the festival season in France. As this year was the 10th anniversary of the festival, a fifth stage was added and a vast electic selection of hip-hop, rock, reggae and techno artists invited to perform. French PA company Melpomen, which has provided PA support for the last decade, was able to use three generations of NEXO’s GEO Series line array loudspeakers in their FOH systems.
For NEXO, this festival has always been an important platform to illustrate the benefits for larger stages in using FOH systems based on cardioid technology. Out of the five stages, the two largest featured NEXO’s GEO T systems. [The larger of the two had 24 GEO Ts per side with six GEO Subs (flown) per side and six CD18s per side. The smaller GEO T stage had 12 GEO Ts per side and 4 CD18s per side.]
Making their first appearance at the festival, the NXAMP 4×4 power amplifiers were used to drive the subwoofers on the large GEO T stage. During the festival, Thierry Tranchant, director of Melpomen, was impressed, commenting that "the NXAMP 4x4s displayed an unbelievable amount of output capacity; over the course of the three days the amplifiers' protection never came on, even with the loads that we were putting on them."
On the next two stages, the 3-way cardioid GEO D10 enclosures were used as main PA, in conjunction with either GEO SUBs or CD18 bins, and the final stage had NEXO’s newest most versatile system to date, exploiting the exceptional power and sound quality of the GEO S12 plug-and-play modules in tandem with the new RS 15 sub, deployed in cardioid mode, and also making its debut at the Solidays festival.
The RS 15 was also deployed as part of the stage monitor systems on the larger stages, where systems ranged from arrays of GEO S12s on the larger stages, to Alpha Series and PS15s on the smaller ones. A number of stages also used GEO S12s as front fills.
