Classic Rock Artists on Tour with Heil Mics

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. – Ryan Adams once said in a radio interview that classic rock is alive and well in America. Truer words were never spoken, especially during the summer, with tours heading out to see America, and Heil Sound microphones are along for the ride.

“Wheatland” veterans, Kansas have been touring with a package of Heil mics; PR 30s, PR 40s and Handi Mics are new additions to drummer Phil Ehart’s kit. Monitor Mixer Derek Platt commented after using the Handi Mics on snare that, “It sounded like a snare drum with melted butter dripping off it!” The band also uses PR 22s for its three singers.

Pat Benatar is out on her annual summer tour with long time FOH Mixer Billy Triplett at the helm. “ I use Heil mics on almost every channel that requires a microphone. The PR 30s have become my ‘must have’ on drum overheads. The drummer loves them because I can bring them in closer to the kit thereby eliminating bleed into the IEMs from other instruments.”

Southern rockers 38 Special are also using Heil Sound on their tour. FOH duties are handled by John Livoti, and monitor chores by Mojo. Bob Heil recently visited both, along with bassist Larry Junstrom, an avid ham radio friend of Bob’s, during a tour stop in St. Louis, Mo.
