Baja California, MEXICO – Prog rockers of the world unite each year in Baja California for the BAJA PROG festival. For the second year running, NEXO systems were provided for the main stage, pleasing the many international sound engineers attending the event.
For the last 12 years, the town of Mexicali, the capital of the Mexican state Baja California, has hosted one of the most important festivals of progressive rock and art in the world – certainly the most important in Latin America. For the last two years, NEXO has been part of the event. Local PA company Audiomix provided a GEO S8 system for the 20 bands that come from all over the world to play.
This year’s system was configured with 10-element hangs on either side of the stage (eight S805 plus two S830) with two CD18 subs on either side. Over the four days of the festival, the audience could enjoy an exotic bill of bands from Poland, Italy, the UK, Spain and Mexico. Among the big names were 1970s superstars FOCUS and Tony Levin from King Crimson and Peter Gabriel, as well as CAST (Mexicali host band), Alonso Arreola (México), Riverside (Poland), OMNI (Spain), Rocket Scientists (United States), and the legendary New Trolls (Italy), Le Orme (Italy) and CIRCA (United Kingdom and United States, Ex members of legendary prog-rock band YES).
Baja Prog Is unusual in that the festival’s main organizer Alfonso Vidales also plays on-stage, as keyboardist for CAST. Vidales, together with Julio Camacho and Charly Garcia, the owner of Audiomix, were delighted with the honest and accurate performance of the GEO S8 system, and its reproduction of the different sound of each band. Trying to please so many different sound engineers with one system is always a difficult challenge, but all the front-of-house engineers working at the festival reported that they were very happy with the GEO S.
