Mayday Extravaganza Rocks Germany with Turbosound

DORTMUND, Germany – Promoter i-motion’s annual Mayday extravaganza draws clubbers from all over Germany to an all-night feast of cutting-edge music. This year’s event saw a new arena added to the event in Dortmund’s Westfalenhallen, which got off to the best possible start thanks to a large Turbosound audio rig.

Effectively divided into four separate areas for the event – Arena, Casino, Empire and Factory – it was the latter in which regular Turbosound users BLL and CE-Veranstaltungstechnik combined to provide a huge Aspect rig to ensure the pounding beats of 12 Techno and Hardcore acts, including Vince, Korsakoff, Sven Wittekind and Angerfist, were experienced to the maximum by several thousand clubbers.

BLL and CE-Veranstaltungstechnik’s combined Turbosound inventory is well known in Germany for being (literally) the beating heart of many dance music events, so it was the ideal choice for the new Factory venue at Mayday.

“The Aspect rig has received only praise for its power and clarity, it is the perfect system for electronic music,” says Carsten Eichstädt of CE-Veranstaltungstechnik, who designed the sound installation for Factory. “So we were very happy to be invited to use it at Mayday, as it has been one of Germany’s premier dance music events for 15 years.”

Carsten and Sascha Schmitz, owners of BLL, supplied a four-point sound system featuring six TA-880H mid-highs flown above six ground stacked TSW-718 subs each side of the stage. A center bass cluster comprising 12 TSW-718 subs, stacked six high by two deep, was also arrayed in front of the stage.

At the rear of the venue, two further PA towers featured six TA-890H mid-highs flown above five ground-stacked TA-880L lows per side. Two further TA-880Hs were used for infill, while four stacks comprising two TA-880L and one TA-880H each were provided for artist monitors.

Turbosound LMS-D26 controllers took overall care of the system, with amplification for the system via several racks of MC² amps.

“Mayday promoter i-motion is one of Germany’s biggest event agencies for electronic music, so there could be no compromise – we needed to provide a system that sounded absolutely fantastic,” says Carsten.

“As usual the Turbosound equipment performed flawlessly – the system was tremendously powerful, but with absolutely no distortion, the sound was extremely clear and precise. The promoters, artists and clubbers were all extremely happy.”
