MODESTO, CA – The Mary Stuart Rogers (capacity 1,250) and Foster Family Theaters (capacity 444) are designed with state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment. Audio systems design for both theaters was by Media Systems Design Group (Los Angeles, Ca), Timothy Hart, principal. Lighting Design was by Lighting Design Alliance (Long Beach, Ca), Chip Israel, project head. Audio installation was performed by Professional Communication Design (PCD) out of Santa Rosa.
Both halls host a wide variety of programs, both acoustic and amplified. The Rogers Theater is home to the Modesto Symphony orchestra, with opera and ballet performances — all without amplification. Broadway shows and pop concerts in the hall are amplified events. The Foster Theater hosts numerous family theater productions and other dramatic events emphasizing unamplified vocal clarity, with some performances requiring amplified sound.
The hall is a traditional shoebox shape, in keeping with its primary use as a classical music venue, with a maximum width of 97 feet, tapering to approximately 72 feet between the side walls just forward of the proscenium — dimensions favorable to directing early sound reflections towards the center portions of the orchestra seating areas.
FOH audio for both the Rogers and Foster Family theaters is based around Yamaha digital consoles: a PM5D for the Rogers, and an M7CL for the Foster.
The FOH loudspeaker system for the Rogers Theater comprises a JBL L/R line array—16 JBL VT 4888 and 4 JBL VT4882, driven by Crown amplifiers—supplemented by 3 Reinkus Heinz TRAP40M/6K MH and 3 Reinkus Heinz TRAP40K/7K FR, and 5 Tannoy iW6TDC stage lip fill monitors.
The FOH loudspeaker system for the Foster Family theater comprises 12 JBL VRX932LA line array cabinets with 4 JBL VRX918S subs, supplemented by 3 Reinkus Heinz TRAP40M/6K MH, and 3 Tannoy iW6TDC stage lip fill monitors.
The monitor console for the Rogers Theater is a second Yamaha PM5D.
