NEW YORK — Located on the site of the historic Cafe des Artistes, the Valmont Club is a 300-capacity venue whose focus is providing an inclusive atmosphere (no VIP rooms here) and serving a menu of 60 different cocktails. The audio soundtrack includes a mixture of background music, DJ sets and live performances. To achieve the desired sound quality, audio contractor Outstanding Productions chose Turbosound loudspeakers.
The club is divided into four principal areas — the entrance, main bar, lounge bar and dance floor — throughout which Outstanding Productions installed a distributed system of Turbosound TCS-081C mid-highs and TSB-110 subs, which carry the same audio signals to all parts of the venue.
“The small footprint of the TCS Compact series and TSB subs was ideal, as the club has low ceilings,” says the company’s Santi Arribas. “In addition, I have used the TCS Compact series on other installations, with fantastic results.”
Driven by QSC and Crown amplifiers, a BSS Minidrive is used to manage the system.
Installation was relatively straight forward. With the space’s history as a music venue, many improvements have taken place over the years to enhance the acoustics. The Valmont Club’s policy of soft furnishings and subtly draped walls has also ensured that there are no unusual reflections, with their inherent acoustic difficulties.
“The acoustic conditions of the rooms are surprising,” says Santi. “Acoustically speaking, they are very much optimum for this kind of installation.”
The straightforward nature of the installation was aided by Turbosound’s service and backup, which meant Santi could concentrate on the job in hand, not problem-solving.
