NEW YORK — Fashion Week went on tour for the first time this year, and Houston's LD Systems deployed their Electro-Voice XLD line array for FashionWeekLive, which showcased creations from two dozen of the industry's top designers. Designed to bring the world of high fashion to a mainstream audience, the event was delivered with a decidedly rock n roll & hip-hop vibe. LD Systems lead systems tech Matt Sterling and freelance A1 engineer Garth Hemphill spec'd four overhead hangs of four deep XLD boxes, along with eight Xsubs placed under the stadium style seating in the tent erected to house the show. "Obviously, in a large temporary tent like this, weight is a critical issue," says Robert Ausmus, director of production services for LD Systems, "and you have the various contractors vying for their share of weight-requirements and fly space. The XLD fell comfortably into the required weight and space category, while delivering more than enough SPL horsepower for 1,800 people."
Ausmus adds, "We had great results with the XLD on a few gigs with both Los
Lonely Boys & Martina McBride — so much so that we doubled our XLD inventory this year — and it's proven equally impressive for spoken word, corporate and higher SPL country and rock gigs."
