LAS VEGAS — The 28,000-member student body of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas eagerly awaited the opening of its new Moyer Student Union this fall. The new 135,000 square foot facility is bigger and better than the previous and rather small student union of the past. The new building includes a dining court, TV lounge, office space and rooms for studying and socializing, as well as a 300-seat movie theater, with Community's I/O5 and Solutions loudspeakers used throughout. The main areas and food court are served by music and paging systems centered around the Community I/O5. The compact, two-way, indoor/outdoor speakers feature a low profile and aesthetic design that are well suited for the task.
Spaced moderately throughout the corridors, the extra wide coverage pattern of the I/O5 speakers are ideal for this application. With one I/O5 speaker every six to ten feet on alternating sides, the results are clean and consistent, with no dropouts or hot spots.
The Student Union's new movie theater, with high definition projection on a 20' x 11' foot screen, features audio from Community's high sensitivity Solutions Series loudspeakers. The full-range SLS960 Wavefront Coherent signal aligned horn-loaded loudspeaker systems and SBS25 subwoofer systems provide the entertainment quality sound fitting for this modern venue. Time-aligning the subwoofers to the main speakers, with a minimal amount of EQ to compensate for the somewhat flat contour of the room, allows the SLS and SBS systems to perform to their full potential.
