NORTHRIDGE, CA–The Moreleta Park Dutch Reformed Church in Pretoria, South Africa recently commissioned a new JBL VerTec DP Series powered line array system with JBL DrivePack technology and HiQnet networking for their new 7,200-seat auditorium. The church serves a growing worship community that now includes over 17,000 members. With three balconies and a new presentation stage nearly the size of the congregation's entire previous church building, a sound reinforcement system was required to complement the unique modern design of the venue and to serve a broad variety of applications, including worship services, live broadcasts and contemporary music concerts. Chris Leeson of Claasen Auret Inc. Consulting Engineers and Chris Jonker, Technical Director for the Moreleta Church, collaborated on the design specifications for the networked audio sound system. A group of 20 JBL VT4888DP-CN midsize powered line array elements, arrayed in two sets of ten enclosures, is supplemented by 12 JBL ASB-6128 subwoofers to ensure complete coverage of the entire auditorium. The system design is focused upon clarity and vocal intelligibility as well as the full frequency response and highest audio fidelity required to accurately reproduce contemporary gospel music.

Gustav Teitge was the engineering project manager for Wild & Marr, whose engineering team put forth the successful proposal for the new Moreleta Church system installation.

Soundcraft MH4-56 and MH3-48 mixing consoles are supplied for respective front-of-house and stage monitor functions. JBL SRX712M floor monitors are powered by Crown I-T6000CN amplifiers. A BSS Active Splitter System is used to route broadcast audio signals.

In addition to the main system, the church has two fully functional breakaway rooms fitted with JBL AE Series loudspeakers, with portable racks which can be used for a variety of purposes such as youth concerts and educational seminars.

The church also has inhouse translation booths, a recording studio and a post-production editing suite. The venue serves up to 5 events per day, and has already hosted several international contemporary music concerts.
