LAS VEGAS – Now that Formula 1 racing has pushed the LDI Show and Parnelli Golf Tournament firmly into December, it seemed likely that the golfing pace for the Dec. 7 event at Henderson, NV’s Legacy Golf Club would be as brisk as the weather.

But the chilly morning temperatures would reach a comfortable 67 degrees, with clear skies and calm winds – perfect for a round of golf. And while everyone quickly made their way to the convoy of golf carts for the shotgun start at 8 a.m. sharp, the general vibe was relaxed as the players engaged in friendly banter, soaking up the bright sunshine.

The temperature was chilly as the players headed off to their assigned starting holes at 8 a.m.

“Remember, every dollar you spend includes a donation to the Parnelli Scholarship fund,” said event founder Terry Lowe, as he greeted the arriving golfers earlier in the clubhouse, before they warded off the morning chill with coffee, hot breakfast burritos, and some practice drives and puts on the driving range and putting green just behind the clubhouse.

The raffle prizes and trophies

The event’s early morning schedule was less of a challenge for those arriving from the earlier time zones back east, and while the Las Vegas locals had enjoyed a full week of ideal golfing weather, the bright sunshine seemed especially welcome to those who had traveled from regions of the U.S. that had already been battered by winter storms over Thanksgiving – including Lowe himself, who had flown in from Indiana.

And unlike a few previous tournaments that took place in November where the weather stayed cold and windy and participants hustled back to the warmth of the clubhouse for a barbecue lunch almost an hour earlier, the players at this year’s event lingered on the fairways, enjoying the sunshine, camaraderie and refreshments offered by hole sponsors.

After finally making their way back for the burgers and hotdogs offered for lunch, the event’s chief organizer, Greg Gallardo, got an assist from his son, Greyson, to pick the winning raffle tickets at random for an assortment of prizes that included Amazon Kindles, an Android tablet, a golf bag, free rounds of golf, and a free ad in PLSN and FOH magazines.

Next, awards were bestowed for Longest Putt, Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin, and finally, the three lowest-scoring foursomes competing for 2024 tournament bragging rights. In third place (with 59 strokes) was Quail Financial Solutions. Next up, the team from Quest claimed the four second-place trophies (with 57). And the top prizes went to a foursome from MainLight, with the low, low score of just 47 strokes (which elicited cheers mixed with a bit of ribbing from a few skeptics among the hundred attendees).

Lowe and Gallardo once again thanked all the golfers, hole sponsors and event sponsors for participating in yet another memorable Parnelli Classic golf tournament, reminding everyone that without their generous support, the event would not be able to happen. For the 2024 tournament, they included: 3G Productions, 4Wall Entertainment, Advanced Entertainment Services, CPR Tent & Events, Elation, Encompass Event Group, IntelliEvent, Liberty Press, MainLight, NovaStar, Quail Financial Solutions, ROE Visual, and Solotech.
