Superior Sound for India’s best sunsets: Slow Tide Restaurant in Goa, India
Anjuna is a laid-back little town in the Indian state of Goa, renowned worldwide for its stunning sandy beaches, rich Portuguese heritage and vibrant nightlife. Slow Tide Restaurant follows the tradition and embraces the hippie culture that flourished in the area during the 60’s, offering live music and DJ sets, especially during Goa’s tourist season. This unique blend of cultural heritage and lively entertainment makes it a favorite hotspot both for locals and tourists seeking delicious food and a vibrant nightlife.
The challenge
The top priority at Slow Tide Restaurant was to install a sound system that delivered consistent quality and coverage without compromising the venue’s aesthetics. Additionally, the system needed to be versatile enough to work both in relaxed atmospheres and during lively parties. The beachfront location posed some challenges due to extreme environmental conditions such as salt, high humidity and high temperatures, which can severely impact the durability of the equipment. Finding solutions that could withstand these conditions while ensuring a high-quality sonic experience was critical.
Solution
The entire system was conceptualized and executed by Audio Kris, a premier rental and installation company based in Goa. They have successfully completed numerous installations using DAS Audio products across Goa, including pubs, nightclubs, discotheques, and restaurants, making them a trusted name in the region. DAS Audio’s WR series systems were chosen for their ability to meet all sound and technical requirements at Slow Tide Restaurant. These systems are designed for covered exposure (CX) and feature an ISO-flex polyurea coating to withstand extreme environmental conditions.
The preferred models, WR-8826-CX and WR-6415-CX, deliver uniform coverage and superior sound quality. The WR-8826-CX includes twin 6” loudspeakers for low frequencies and a compression driver with a 1” diaphragm for high frequencies. The WR-6415-CX uses a 15” transducer and a compression driver with a 3” titanium diaphragm coupled to a 60° x 40° rotatable horn for bright and clear high frequencies. The enclosures are constructed of birch plywood, providing ruggedness and durability.
To enhance the low end, two WR-151S and two WR-218S subwoofers were used to deliver powerful sound with minimal distortion. The WR-151S features a 15” loudspeaker with 800W RMS power handling and a frequency range of 45Hz to 125 Hz. The WR-218S, equipped with two 18” speakers and 1600W RMS power handling, extends the frequency range from 30 Hz to 125 Hz, ensuring optimal performance during Slow Tide’s lively parties.
For uniform coverage and to meet both technical and environmental requirements, the ARCO series systems, molded in high-impact ABS plastic, were the perfect choice. The audio management for the entire installation was handled using the Integral series and its M-88 processor, ensuring smooth setup and operation. Karl da Costa played a crucial role in configuring the crossover of the M-88, contributing significantly to the system’s performance.
This combination of systems and electronics at Slow Tide successfully delivers a high-quality audio experience and exceptional durability in a challenging environment. “Working on the Slow Tide Restaurant project was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase the durability and sound quality of DAS Audio products. Our long-standing relationship with DAS Audio allowed us to confidently meet the unique challenges posed by Goa’s beachfront environment, ensuring that both locals and tourists enjoy an exceptional audio experience,” said Cris Furtado, managing director at Audio Kris.
Conclusion
Slow Tide Restaurant is a paradise for tourists looking for a slice of heaven on earth and a unique gastronomic offer. Thanks to DAS Audio systems, the sonic experience beautifully complements India’s breathtaking sunsets in perfect harmony. Intelligibility, quality and sound coverage has been successfully achieved throughout, and the reliability and durability of the systems guarantee that this extraordinary experience remains exceptional for years to come.
