Event Details

Part of ASO Classics Series under the direction of maestro Christopher Wilkins, Anton Bruckner’s Fourth Symphony performance had an 85-piece orchestra with extensive brass and woodwinds. FRONT of HOUSE contributor Steve Savanyu notes that, “traditionally, Bruckner’s works were performed in acoustically live spaces taking advantage of the natural reverb. To achieve this effect, the monitor system was set up facing the concrete rear wall of the stage house and a special orchestra ‘FX mix’ was sent to these speakers. Working like an acoustic echo chamber, the reinforced sound bounced off the concrete, through an opening in the orchestra shell and acoustically blended with the onstage performance. By controlling this ‘monitor’ mix, we created the desired effect without the use of artificial reverberation.”
