Howard Worthen, 1962-2024

WICHITA, KS – Howard Wayne Worthen, an FOH engineer with a long career in supporting the audio needs of live bands on tour, died Feb. 28, 2024. He was 61. Raised in Helena, OK and a graduate of Helena Goltry High School, Worthen moved to Texas and later, after completing his FOH career, to Wichita, KS.

“After many years of honing his craft with Oliver Magnum, Howard moved to Texas where he worked his sound magic with Bowling for Soup, Deep Blue Something, The Nixons, Drowning Pool, Taproot and Seether,” noted his nephew, Austin DeHaas. DeHaas added that his uncle went by different nicknames during the course of his career, starting with “Chigger,” then “Howy” and “How Daddy” more recently. “He was loved by many friends and family around the country and the world,” DeHaas said.
