Event Details

The city of Atlanta celebrated hip hop’s 50-year milestone with several weeks of festivities, with a free concert on Aug. 13 serving as a highlight of the celebration. Noting that Atlanta’s role in the genre was “indisputable,” city mayor Andre Dickens welcomed the concert, titled ATL Hip Hop 50 Concert: Yesterday, Today and (404)-Ever. With Dickens, Jermaine Dupri and Ryan Cameron serving as hosts, the event’s performers included T.I., Goodie Mob, EarthGang, Backbone, Crime Mob, Omeretta The Great and ScottyATL along with special guests including civil rights leader and former Atlanta mayor Andrew Young.
