FREEPORT, ME – AV Technik provided a VUE Audiotechnik al-Class line array system for an outdoor concert and L.L. Bean’s headquarters last fall that featured a performance by Michael Franti and Spearhead.

The Oct. 6 show capped a series of outdoor concerts that the outdoor clothing retailer had sponsored during the summer of 2018, and while AV Technik has provided sound for many events at the L.L. Bean venue, this was their first deployment of their extensive VUE inventory at L.L. Bean’s venue.
“We began using VUE about two years ago and, thanks to the products’ versatility and sonic performance, it has proven to be a very valuable tool for many of our clients,” said Daniel Willis, AV Technik president. “For prior events at L.L. Bean headquarters, we have used a handful of other systems, but with VUE, we were able to achieve entirely new levels of coverage, pattern control, clarity, and consistency throughout the entire venue.”
Surrounded by highly reflective office buildings in the center of downtown Freeport, the venue required 180-degree coverage with 300-foot throw all while maintaining City-mandated sound levels and minimizing building reflections. AV Technik’s production manager, Nick Pires, designed the all-VUE system to deliver on all fronts. He specified two hangs of five al-12s per side, along with two hangs of eight al-4s per side as outfills. The setup also included six hs-221 ground-mounted dual 21-inch subwoofers with ACM for low-frequency support, and three hm-112s served as monitors. All DSP and networking were provided by six V4 and six V3 VUEDrive engines.
According to Willis, the band, already touring with Sound Image, and touring engineer were “thrilled to see a VUE system in place for their event.” The audience, band and FOH engineer were equally as impressed with the system’s performance. “Everyone across the board noted the even pattern control, acoustic clarity and coverage consistency throughout the entire audience field. We really feel like we’ve got a home run on our hands,” said Willis.
