MAIDSTONE, U.K. – SRG Group provided Outline GTO and Butterfly loudspeaker systems for a recent two-day musical event at Leeds Castle that included a performance by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by John Rigby (Saturday) and a concert headlined by boy-band The Wanted (Sunday), with appearances by Alexandra Burke, Fanfare, Stacey Solomon, Eliza Doolittle and Aggro Santos.
The system included Outline's GTO line-source enclosure, flown 12 deep per side, with dual delay towers containing 12 Butterfly loudspeakers to provide coverage for the large, unconventionally-shaped audience area. Six additional Butterfly elements were ground-stacked per side for front-fill. The entire system was powered by Outline T11 amplifiers while being controlled by Lake LM26 processors via Dante networks.
On Saturday, Ian Barfoot handled the primary orchestra mix (128 channels) with 10 digital stems sent to FOH, where Chris Beddall mixed on an Allen & Heath iLive digital console. Another iLive handled the on-stage monitor mix. Sunday headliners The Wanted were mixed at FOH by Andrew Thornton on an Avid VENUE Profile, with all other acts mixed used an iLive 112 surface.
Barfoot also designed the system using Outline's proprietary Open Array prediction software. It "predicted exactly what we consequently achieved and was flawless in its execution," he said.
After the show, Beddall noted that "the GTO system can certainly handle the subtleties of orchestral music as well as rock with its huge dynamic range, and has long throw capabilities without compare. I am truly impressed.'
Stuart Roberts of SRD GROUP also credited the system, calling it "amazing" and that it "throws an incredible distance with even coverage and excellent intelligibility. What we experienced at Leeds Castle totally substantiates Outlines' claims of unparalleled far-field performance."
