SILVERSTONE, U.K. – Turbosound's Aspect loudspeaker system provided considerable audio horsepower for staged events at the Formula 1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone recently. The event included special appearances from Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley, Brit Floyd and the Eddie Jordan Band and driver interviews conducted by Tony Jardine with Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.
Also making appearances were Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, Jackie Stewart, Red Bull Team boss Christian Horner and Red Bull designer Adrian Newey, Rick Parfitt Jnr and Jamie Archer, with Martin Brundle and Jake Humphrey from the BBC commentary team.
ESS provided an Aspect PA including 12 flown TA-890H mid/highs with 12 TA-890L ground stacked low frequency cabinets and six TSW-218 subs per side, all powered by MC2 amplifiers. TQ-445 three-way loudspeakers were deployed as fills and six of the new TMW-115 wedges made up the floor monitor system. Flex Array TFA-600H three-way mid/high line array cabinets were deployed as delays.
FOH engineer Martin Wharton credited the PA's ability to overcome the windy conditions. "Aspect gave us the expected good coverage and even low end," he comments, "with none of the sound disappearance you can get with line arrays in the wind, and projection was really good right across the deep site with the delays located out at 70 to 80 meters. Brit Floyd especially sounded good – Aspect is great for the big dynamic range in Floyd's music," he added, noting that engineer Gareth Darlington gives Aspect high marks as well.
