MUMBAI, India – The 2011 Cricket World Cup final April 2 at Wankhede Stadium wasn't just between cricket players representing India and Sri Lanka. From the perspective of Mumbai-based E2 Tech, it was also between the 24 Turbosound Flex Array loudspeakers they provided and as many as 40,000 cheering, vuvuzela-ing fans.
E2 Tech provided a fully active four-way system consisting of 24 Flex Array TFA-600HDP self-powered mid/highs, 12 NuQ-12DP two-ways, 12 dual 18'' TSW-218DP self-powered subwoofers and 12 TFA-600L Flex Array 18" low frequency cabinets – a total of 60 Turbosound cabinets as main PA and as fills for the VIP Areas, with eight Milan M15s doing duty as monitors for the DJ and the awards ceremonies.
E2 Tech provides complete audio, lighting, video and trussing services all over India as well as technical direction, engineering and production, and has deployed Turbosound's Flex Array system for leading artists in the country, including Shankar Eshaan Loy, Sunidhi Chauhan and Kunal Ganjawala.
E2 Tech acquired its Flex Array system in mid 2009 through Turbosound's Indian distributor Narain ProAudio Lighting Pvt Ltd, and has added to its inventory substantially in the last two years as the loudspeakers have continued to perform beyond expectations.
Manoj Motwani at Narain worked closely with E2 tech's directors Vijay Sabhlok and Jasjeet Singh on the purchase, and helped to narrow the choice down to Turbosound's Flex Array.
"We had a very difficult task of finding the right system, to give us what we wanted at the right price given the high standards demanded by our clients," said Sabhlok. "But as we sat down to discuss the options and went through multiple catalogs of several manufacturers our task got easier as the only system which met all our parameters and offered the best value was the Turbosound Flex Array."
Although greatly outnumbered by fans, Sabhlok was confident that the self-powered Flex Arrays would be more than adequate to deliver clean sound above the stadium din.
"Flex Array is a speaker box which is of the right size, right weight and absolutely the right configuration for us," added E2 Tech director Jasjeet Singh, "and best of all it comes in a self-powered version. Flex can be used a line array and also as a point source system. It gives us the flexibility to use it indoors and outdoors. And the low frequency cabinet, which is also self-powered, has a single 18" speaker making it the right size for banquet halls but can also be flown in larger arrays.
"We also bought NuQ-15DPs and NuQ-12DPs, both self-powered, which again provided us with the flexibility to use them as monitors or as point source systems. Overall the experience of using Turbosound systems has been great and we are committed to increasing our systems as time goes by. My first thought when I first heard Flex Array was that if I close my eyes, the amplified voice sounds real, like the concert was real and not a recording," concluded Singh.
